Q1. Can I volunteer to help the NRYLL? (A) YES! Please speak with one of the league organizers at registration, or send email to chrisfagen@yahoo.com. Q2. Will there be both girls and boys U15, U13, U11 teams? (A) Yes, that is the intention. However, how many boys and girls teams in each age group will depend on two very important factors.
Q3. Will each team compete with other town teams? (A)
That is the intention. Each
team plays an eight game travel schedule against neighboring towns.
However, where lacrosse is still a
relatively up and coming sport, and not all town’s field both boy’s and
girl’s teams at all age levels, this may not be the case.
Every effort will be made to find competitive team play for every North
Reading team. Q4. What is the registration fee used for? (A) Membership to US Lacrosse, NRYLL uniform (jersey and shorts), game referee fees, North Reading field use fees, field supply costs, advertising notices in Transcript, end of year party, other league costs. Q5. When does the season start and end? (A) Season starts in early April, weather permitting, and ends the first week of June. Q6. What equipment does my child need? (A) Please check the www.uslacrosse.org site for specific guidance. Generally, boy’s lacrosse requires helmet, arm pads, boy’s lacrosse gloves, mouth guard, lacrosse stick, shoulder pads, athletic supporter & protective cup, sneakers, and soccer or football cleats. Girl’s lacrosse requires girl’s lacrosse gloves, lacrosse stick, mouth guard, eye protection, sneakers or soccer cleats. Q7. What is the time commitment? (A) Two practices per week, one game per week usually on Sunday’s. There may be scrimmages arranged with other towns, at other times, during the season. Q8. My child plays other sports in the spring, how are conflicts handled? (A) It’s understood that children will have other activities. Players are expected to attend at least one practice per week and all games if possible. Q9. Where can I get information about the rules of the game, age restrictions, and other the league requirements? (A) Massachusetts Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL) is the governing league for the state of Massachusetts and the NRYLL. Rules and information can be found at www.mbyll.org. U.S. Lacrosse is the governing league nationwide, and sets the rules and regulations for the MBYLL and NRYLL. Rules and information can be found at www.uslacrosse.org. There is also a book titled “Coaching Youth Lacrosse” that can be found at Barnes and Noble.
